Position Background

WorldFish Bangladesh and South Asia is hiring ResearchAssistant funded by USAID funded ‘ECOFISH II in order to meet its vision: Be the research partner of choice, delivering high impact, transformative and equitable fisheries and aquaculture solutions to reduce poverty and malnutrition in Bangladesh and South Asia. The key objective of the ECOFISH II project is improved social and ecological resilience of coastal fisheries securing equitable food, nutrition and income benefits for fishing communities. The Activity has been focusing on ecosystem resilience, biodiversity conservation, hilsa management, riverine catfish conservation, co-management, livelihood resileince, food, nutrition and gender equity, mainly working on the Zone of Resilience (ZOR) focusing on small-scale artisanal fisheries, continuation of the best practices in the lower Meghna River Ecosystem (MRE) including Nijhum Dwip Marine Protected Area (MPA). Under the overall guidance of the ECOFISH II Project Manager and direct supervison of Research Associate, the Research Assistant will implement the planned activities directly, with the partners and stakeholders. The position-holder needs to coordinate and implement relevent field activities with the guidance of relevent component Leads (IR-1 amp; 2 Scientists, Specialists and MEL Manager). The position is located at ZoR (Cox’s Bazar region) or in MRE sites (Patuakhali, Bhola and Barisal region) as per need. Overall, the incumbent must hails WorldFish LEAD (Learning, Excellence, Accountability and Diversity) values through ECOFISH Team works in the coastal aquatic food systems.

Requirements

  • MS/MSc degree in Fisheries/Fisheries Management/Aquatic Resource Management/ Aquaculture/Marine Science amp; Fisheries/Social Science/Anthropology or equivalent degree from a recognized University.
  • Basic concept on capture fisheries, co-management, and socio-economic aspects of fisheries.
  • Experience with similar job will be given preference.
  • Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English with strong writing skills.
  • Able to undertake regular fieldwork, traveling by motorbike/ boat.
  • Should have valid motorbike driving license and proven ability of swimming.
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in Community Based Fisheries Management or Fisheries or Aquaculture development and extension project with focus on field based research activities.
Desired skills/experience
  • Ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to both work in and assist team.
  • Having motorbike driving license and able to swim will add values / advantages.
  • Committed and motivated
  • Willingness to undertake fieldwork at river, coastal sea and remote sites.
  • Knowledge on essential computer software/packages like MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
