Job Description

WorldFish undertakes a study to understand the performance of a genetically improved rohu strain under the usual farming practices followed by the fish farmers in Bangladesh. The Fish breeding and Research Platform Manager will oversee the management of the staff, facilities and fish of the WorldFish Carp Genetic Improvement Program (CGIP) based in Jashore.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise the staff, facilities and fish of the CGIP.
  • Oversee the generation and distribution of families for the CGIP breeding population, backup population/s and dissemination purposes.
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of the CGIP facilities, ponds, hatchery, equipment, and materials.
  • Contribute to the planning, design and conduct of experiments.
  • Oversee the collection of technical information including fish-measurement, sample, movement and health data, along with pond-input (e.g. feed and fertiliser), environment and management data.
  • Provide technical information and data to scientists in a timely manner to allow preparation of scientific papers, proposals, and reports.
  • Undertake regular visits to CGIP facilities.
  • Ensure CGIP facilities and operations adhere to Bangladeshi regulations and WorldFish policy.

Requirements

This job is open to Bangladesh Nationals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Science (e.g. biological science, fisheries, aquaculture, agriculture). Applicants with Master's or PhD degree is encourage to apply.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in aquaculture or fisheries.
  • Team leading and management skills.
  • Ability to manage, provide professional guidance to and develop staff under direct supervision.
  • Practical knowledge of carp aquaculture and breeding.
  • Ability to understand and implement basic experimental designs.
  • Strong data management skills and an ability to maintain accurate documentation of activities and operations.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in both English and Bangla.

Benefits

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with approximate annual salary ranging between BDT 1,347,224 BDT 1,561,801 per annum. WorldFish NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension / provident fund contribution.

Eligibility, Location and Duration

The position will be based Jashore division. Interviews are expected to be held in February 2021 and only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence in March 2021 for an initial six (6) months fixed term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding availability.
